WEST ALLIS - A 55-year-old man from West Allis has died, and a sheriff's deputy in Adams County is in the hospital after what appears to be some sort of domestic incident.
West Allis Police had asked authorities in Adams County to check a location after police here were notified a 52-year-old woman was missing from a home in the 9800 block of West Vigo Terrace.
Police say the woman and her 55-year-old husband had recent marital trouble and that there was a no contact order.
Police believed the woman was with the man. She was listed as missing and endangered.
The Adams County Sheriff, Sam Wollin, says when they got to the home, officers shouted commands at the man, who pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds at two officers.
The Sheriff says one of the deputies was hit. The man then turned the gun on himself.
Both the deputy and the man were airlifted to the hospital.
Sheriff's officials say law enforcement never fired during the incident.
The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation will investigate the case.
