Two Injured Fighting Possible Arson Fire in Milwaukee

By Jay Sorgi

Two Milwaukee Fire Department team members are in stable condition after receiving injuries while fighting a fire on Milwaukee early Thursday morning that could be a case of arson.

It occurred at a vacant three-story house being reconstructed on the 2400 block of North 2nd Street on Milwaukee's north side.

Officials say a fire captain and a firefighter walked into the home at about 2:50 a.m. and the first floor gave way.  They fell eight feet through the floor.

The captain was unconscious after the fall, but regained consciousness after going to Froedert Hospital in Wauwatosa.  The firefighter carried him to the back door where paramedics transfered him.

The firefighter received minor injuries to his back, shoulder and other areas, and was also treated at Froedert.

Officials believe the fire started on the first floor in the back area of the home.

Authorities are investigating the possibility of arson.  They found a back window open on the back side, so officials are looking into whether someone went through the window, got into the house, and started the fire.

The home is said to be at a total loss.
