MILWAUKEE - Charges could be filed Wednesday after a woman allegedly abused her one-year-old child, then attemped to give her child away.

According to Captain Eric Moore with the Milwaukee Police Department, Jasmine Oliver, 22, was seen by witnesses in front of her house with her child.

"Next to her was her 1-year-old daughter who was laying face down on the ground," said Moore. "The [woman] was then observed picking the child up and then dropping the child face down on concrete stairs."

She then walked away from her child and walked up to a Milwaukee Police car that had just arrived on the scene.

Oliver then allegedly told officers inside that she "no longer wanted the child.  The child was subsequently taken by ambulance to a local hospital for facial injuries that are not life-threatening," said Moore.

"The child is still receiving medical attention at the hospital."

The woman was arrested for felony child abuse.

"That is terrible," said Esther Casey, who lives in the area, to TODAY'S TMJ4's Nick Montes.

Police have not said if the incident was an accident.

Oliver has been placed in jail without bond.
