WILLIAMS BAY - "They are icons in the village," said William’s Bay Fire Chief Dough Smith.

Fire Chief Smith, like everyone else in William's Bay, knows Al and Sally Johnson.

"Very small, tight knit community. Everybody knows everybody," Smith said.

"Sally had a spark in her," said Pastor Jeanette Strandjord.

Al and Sally were in their home Thursday night when a fire broke out. While firefighters were able to get Al out safely, Sally died inside their home.

Two firefighters were hurt in the fire, one is still in the hospital, but both are expected to be ok.

"It was a pretty big hit for our fire department," Smith said.

Al is a musician and Sally was a nurse. Both were loved in William's Bay. Pastor Strandjord has known the couple for years, and says there's only one Sally.

"Full of energy, quick to volunteer and support our outreach activities and was interested in welcoming new members," Strandjord said of Sally.

The Walworth County Fire task force is investigating to find out exactly how the fire started.

Funeral services for Sally Johnson are pending.
