Milwaukee's biggest snowfall is headed to the history books, and the East Coast

  • The snow arrived around 9 a.m. and the forecast for Milwaukee, Waukesha and SE Wisconsin is for the snow to continue for the rest of Thursday and into Thursday night with 4-7" of accumulation by midnight.

  • The heaviest snow will end at 7 p.m. so the commute will be slow. This is a heavy wet snow compared to the past few snow events.

  • THURSDAY: Cloudy, mild and foggy with snow likely...and heavy at times Accumulation by 6pm....2-4" High: 33 Wind: SE 5-10 mph

  • TONIGHT: Snow gradually diminishing after midnight then decreasing clouds late 1-2" additional accumulation Low: 25 Lakefront...19 Waukesha Wind: NNE 10-15 mph

  • FRIDAY: Morning flurries, then becoming mostly sunny and seasonal High: 30 Wind: NNE 10-15 mph

  • Friday morning will start with clouds and flurries, but it will be sunny and mild by the afternoon with highs near 30.

  • Saturday will be great to be outdoors with a light wind, sunshine and highs in the lower 30s. Another storm system moves in for Sunday but with highs near 40, it will be raining until Sunday night when sleet and snow mixes in.

MILWAUKEE - A winter storm warning has been issued for today from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m. Friday morning for Milwaukee, Waukesha, Dodge, Jefferson, Kenosha, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth and Washington Counties.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 12:00 a.m. Friday morning for Fond du Lac County.

Another low pressure center is tracking right over head and as expected began producing a Wintery mix of precipitation overnight North of Milwaukee. 

The bulk of the mess will happen during the mid to late morning and afternoon today. 

This system is different from the other clipper storms earlier in the week for a few reasons. 

First, the atmosphere has warmed and that's also led to significantly more moisture to work with. 

Not only does that mean more snow than the previous disturbances, but also a different type of snow. 

This round will be a heavier, wetter batch making it noticable more difficult to move around. 

At the same time, this storm will see more vigorous forcing in the atmosphere from another developing low pressure coming at us from the Southwest that strengthens almost on top of us. 

The snow will diminish and taper off tonight. 

Tomorrow and Saturday look to be quiet with yet another storm set to approach on Sunday. 

That one should be more of a rain and snow mix.
