Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is applauding a bus driver who kept his cool when being attacked.

"He did a tremendous job," said Sheriff Clarke. "The average person couldn't have done that."

A man jumped onto the MCTS 76 bus near 60th and Silver Spring on Milwaukee's northwest side and began attacking the driver.

The man grabbed the wheel and stepped on the driver's foot, which was on the accelerator.

The bus rammed into a tree and the assailant ran off.

Bus drivers' union official Richard Riley says the driver is going through the pain of what he experienced.

"Emotionally, he's very, very upset as well as being bruised up," said Riley. "It's a situation I don't think anyone expects to face when they go to work every day."

Clarke says people who can identify the attacker should help authorities apprehend him when they view the video of the violent attack.

"Somebody knows who this guy is," states Clarke. "When they see it, I think they'll be appalled enough to realize this guy needs to be taken off the street."
