Woman hit and killed by train Tuesday afternoon

WAUKESHA - A fatal train versus pedestrian accident is still under investigation in Waukesha County. Investigators will only say that a 67-year old woman was killed along the tracks here. It happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday when it was still daylight.

Emily Hamer with Canadian National tells TODAY'S TMJ4 they are still investigating what happened but they know the results were tragic.

"There was nothing the crew could have done to prevent the incident," said Hamer. "It’s a tragic reminder that people should stay away from railway property at all times."

According to the Waukesha County Sheriff's office, the incident happen at the crossing gate on Lawnsdale Road near highway 164 in the Town Of Waukesha but the road was shut down for hours during the investigation. No word yet on why the woman was in the remote area by herself. CN says it crew sounded the warning whistle.

Today's TMJ4 has been in contact with Wisconsin’s Railroad Commissioner Jeff Plale, he is also trying to find out exactly what happened here and could if the tragedy could have been avoided.
