HALES CORNERS - Lightning strikes and power outages in Southeastern Wisconsin proved to be a major inconvenience for people in our area Tuesday morning.

The spring-like weather of Tuesday caused problems for businesses and people who live along Highway 100 in and around Hales Corners.

Lightning knocked out power at a strip mall and caused a fire.

The lightning struck a power line on South 106th Street and West Edgerton Avenue in Greenfield.

Firefighters quickly put the fire out, but not before about 1,500 We Energies' customers lose power for about two hours.

One store, the Health Hut, was among those who lost power.

Workers had to reset the alarm after power returned, but the only employee around Tuesday did not know how to do it.

Health Hut sells frozen foods like Ice Cream, so when power goes out, concerns increase.

"We'll probably do some checks to make sure things are OK," explained employee Zakarii Peller.

The post-storm fog also caught drivers off guard as they headed to work.

"The fog was real dense, and just getting from Brookfield to here to get picked up is just really inconvenient," explained Jill Ries, who lives in Brookfield.
