Racine mother sentenced in toddler's death
RACINE, Wis. - A 24 year old Racine mother was crying in court as a judge sentenced her for failing to defend her toddler from a fatal beating.
Prosecutors say Cheyenna White watched as her boyfriend slammed her two-year-old daughter to the ground at least a dozen times, and then neglected to seek medical treatment for eight hours.
An autopsy says Donnasia Jackson's injuries included a severe skull fracture.
A Journal Times of Racine report says during Friday's hearing, White said the loss of her child was more punishment than anything a person could deliver.
The boyfriend, Andre Knighton, pleaded no contest to first-degree reckless homicide. He was previously sentenced to 30 years in prison.
