Two teens allegedly involved in El Rey fire charged with arson
MILWAUKEE - Two Milwaukee teenagers have been arrested for starting the fire that led to significant damage the El Rey market on Jan. 3, 2013.
According to the criminal complaint, Alexander J. Karsten, 17 of Milwaukee, and Miguel Rubio, 18 of Milwaukee, allegedly started a fire in the "enclosure which housed grocery carts." The enclosure was not located within the grocery store but was attached.
A DVR system located on scene caught two white males, which were later identified by a former neighbor in their neighborhood.
The owner of the store said that the damage caused "hundreds of thousands of dollars" in damage to the store.
Both Karsten and Rubio were 17 years old at the time of the crime, but will be charged as adults. They were both charged with Arson of Property Other Than Building.
