Tips for keeping kids warm in brutal cold
MILWAUKEE - While many young people have off of school because of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, some schools are open.
For those students, it means a brutally cold walk to and from school, or a cold time waiting for the bus.
The temperatures we're experiencing Monday in Southeastern Wisconsin have not gone this low in a couple of years.
Reminders for the cold:
- Dress your children in layers.
- Avoid cotton clothes, as they don't insulate when wet. Fleece and wool are better options.
- The body loses heat from all extremities, and not just the head. Make sure your kids have a hat that covers their ears, warm boots and mittens.
- If you suspect your child has frostbite, get medical attention immediately.
