2 years in prison recommended for Walker aide
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A Milwaukee County prosecutor is recommending two years in prison for a former aide to Scott Walker before Walker was elected governor.
A sentencing memo filed this week by Assistant District Attorney Bruce Landgraf says Timothy D. Russell used his relationship with Walker to access money intended to benefit military veterans and their families.
Landgraf will also ask that Russell pay restitution of more than $27,000.
The 49-year-old Russell was a top aide to Walker when the governor was Milwaukee County executive. Russell pleaded guilty to stealing more than $20,000.
Defense attorney Parker Mathers plans to file his own sentencing recommendation Friday afternoon.
He says he'll request a sentence of probation.
Russell is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday morning.
Walker has not been charged with wrongdoing.
