Milwaukee-born hockey player, UW star gets chance at World Juniors title
UFA, Russia - A young hockey player born in Milwaukee and a star with the Wisconsin Badgers gets their chance to pull off a 2013 version of the "Miracle on Ice," and on Russian ice.
Brew City-born Alex Galchenyuk, Badger Jake McCabe and their teammates with Team USA will play Russia for the Under-20 World Junior Championsip on Saturday morning.
Team USA defeated Canada early Thursday, 5-1, in the semifinal round of the tournament.
It is seen as one of the three premier events in international hockey, behind the Olympics and the World Championships.
McCabe, 18, has three goals and three assists during the tournament. He was named "Star of the Game" for his two goals in the first period of the win over Canada.
Galchenyuk, 18, has scored two goals and produced six assists in the event. The Montreal Canadiens own his rights.
