Kewaskum Police say alcohol was factor in deadly Christmas Eve crash
KEWASKUM - Police are recommending charges against a 34-year-old man from West Bend accused of causing a deadly car crash there on Christmas Eve.
It happened on Highway 45 north of County Highway H a little before 10 Monday night.
Police say the man was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to crossing the center line and smashing into an oncoming car. In addition, alcohol was a factor.
A woman who was in the back seat of the car the man hit died from her injuries. She's identified as Pamela Rae Matenaer, who was 56.
"It will likely be homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle," said Kewaskum Police Chief Thomas Bishop.
Bishop says it appears Matenaer and the other people in her car were returning from a Christmas event at the time of the crash.
The Washington County District Attorney is reviewing the case.
