Day Two To Mourn Jennifer Bukosky

By Elizabeth Braun and Jay Sorgi

Today brings the second of three days of mourning of Jennifer Bukosky and two of her daughters.

Bukosky, her unborn baby Sophia and her 10-year-old daughter Courtney were all killed last week when, investigators say, an SUV driven by Mark Benson slammed into Bukosky's car.

The Waukesha County District Attorney's Office has charged Benson with three counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and two counts of injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle in the crash.

Oconomowoc students and their friends packed a funeral home to pay respect to Jennifer, an assistant principal at Oconomowoc High School.

"Everything was about us," said Oconomowoc High student Michael Britten. "Her job was after us. We were always first.

"Everyday we'd see her walking down the hallway. She had a microphone and an arm over her stomach, and she'd have a big smile on her face."

Another one of her students reflected on her care for them.

"She was just there for you, no matter what, and you knew you could go to her for any reason," said Jenna Burnette.

Families of children who went to school with Courtney also attended.

Man in Third Car Involved in Crash Describes His Story

Brian Richert was in a car with his wife and their six and eight-year-old children when it was rear-ended by Bukosky's vehicle last week in the chain reaction crash.

His wife is a nurse and rushed to Bukosky's aid.

"She was feeling the pulse, and trying to do whatever God was allowing her to do. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out the right way."

There was little she could do, and she held Bukosky's hand as she died.

Richert states that their family is feeling alright, physically, but they're still enduring grief.

"Yes, we're lucky, but they're not. And out of respect for the beautiful woman that she was, and the children, no one was lucky."

Richert's wife says she knows Bukosky would have helped her if the situation was reversed.
