TOWN OF SOMMERS - The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department says a driver is dead after a crash that appears to be at least partly weather related in the Town of Sommers.

Authorities say as the train approached a crossing at County Highway A, the Jeep didn't initially attempt to stop.  It appears the driver realized too late that the gates were down.  The driver hit the brakes, but slid 150 feet through a ditch and then back onto the tracks.

The train smashed into the Jepp.  The driver was the only person in the Jeep and was killed.

89 people were on the train.  They were taken to Chicago by bus.  That train was headed from Milwaukee to Chicago at the time.
