TOWN OF FARMINGTON - A fire leaves a man dead and destroys a Washington County bar early Saturday morning.

Crews from several departments were called to Dick's Club 144 in the Town of Farmington just before 1:30.  A driver passing by saw the fire.

A 70-year-old man and 74-year-old woman lived above the bar, and were awakened by the smoke. The man collapsed inside, but the woman escaped to a second floor balcony and was rescued by firefighters.  Crews found the man deceased on the first floor.

The cause remains under investigation, and the ATF and state Fire Marshal are assisting.  It is unknown if there were working smoke detectors. The woman says she was alerted to the fire by the smell of smoke.
