MILWAUKEE - A published report says that Marquette and six other non-football playing Catholic universities have decided to depart from the Big East Conference.
The report from CBSSports.com says that Marquette, DePaul, Georgetown, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall and Villanova are aiming to announce their departure in the next week.
A number of football-playing schools including Notre Dame, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and West Virginia have left the Big East for conferences including the ACC and Big 12.
That led to speculation about Marquette and other similar school possibly starting a new conference or joining another, such as the Atlantic 10.
