MILWAUKEE - The holidays can be a hotbed of stress.

Family and functions can be just too much for some, especially if they're already struggling.

It's never too soon to watch for signs before the holiday blues turn into something much bigger.

Stress around this time of year can lead to sadness, sleeping problems, self-loathing or thoughts of suicide.

According to medical experts, there are things you can do to prevent holiday pressure from turning into depression.

First, recognize how you feel and know it's OK to be upset.  Then you are encouraged to reach out to friends, family or a religious group.

If someone you know is struggling, doctors say the best thing you can do is let them know you care and offer to help them get treatment.
