Welcome to December in Wisconsin with high temperatures forecasted to reach the low to mid-fifties in the Milwaukee area. The normal high temperature in Milwaukee for today is thirty-nine degrees and today temperatures will be fifteen degrees above that figure.

The first three days of this first month of winter will be well above normal and that may be a sign of things to come as the Climate Prediction Center has updated their thirty day outlook for this month. The new outlook indicates a warmer than normal pattern for this month in southern Wisconsin.

December is included in the winter data for temperatures along with January and February, so it is considered the first full month of the season. Snowfall for the cold season starts with the first snowfall in autumn and ends with the last snowfall in spring.

Generally in December we see temperatures take a plunge with below zero record temperatures on each day of the month. The coldest on record for Milwaukee is twenty-two degrees below zero set on the 19th in 1884. The warmest temperature on record for this month was 68 degrees which was set on the 5th in 2001.

Normal precipitation for December is just over two inches, while normal snowfall
is just over ten inches. The snowiest December in Milwaukee was in 2000 when 49.5
inches accumulated.
