BIG BEND - Waukesha Sheriff's deputies have gone to the scene where an elderly woman pulled over on the freeway after driving the wrong direction.

The woman, who is 87 and from Mukwonago, was going northbound in the southbound lanes of I-43 near Oakdale Drive in Big Bend at about 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Initial estimates showed that she drove about four miles the wrong way.

She was driving a red convertible.

"When I saw her...she was in the left lane, probably going about the speed limit," said a TODAY'S TMJ4 Facebook user.

"Traffic was fairly light at the time but there was a decent clump of cars. I saw her coming and moved over to the right lane, but as she passed, she didn't seem to slow or appear concerned at all. Several cars including myself pulled way off to the right almost to a stop."

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department said that another driver assisted in getting her into the median at Oakdale Drive.

Chopper 4 showed a flatbed truck about to take the car away when we arrived on scene.

Deputies and an ambulance attended to the woman's needs.  She was then released, and an officer drove her home.

There was no initial word on whether she was issued a ticket or if she has to retake a driver's test.

Chopper 4 showed no visible damage to her car.
