Milwaukee Police officer shoots, kills armed robbery suspect
MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee Police officer shot and killed an armed robbery suspect near 1st St. and Howard Ave. Saturday afternoon.
"I heard two individuals yelling and I saw an officer running down so i continued walking," said Carl Lassa. "All of sudden there were four gunshots, bang, bang, bang, bang! The cop shot him."
The Milwaukee Police Department said the suspect, 28, had just robbed someone else at gupoint near 17th St. and Layton Ave. He crashed this Honda a few blocks away after the robbery victim followed him. The suspect took off running.
Witnesses say the officer followed but the Department will only say he tried to "conduct an interview." The officer believed his life was danger and fired. The officer tried to perform CPR, but the suspect died on the scene.
The officer is 39 years old and a 15-year veteran. He is on administrative leave while the Milwaukee Police Department and District Attorney's Office investigate the shooting.
