Daughter, Tractor Save Fond Du Lac Man

By Vicky Hollowell and Jay Sorgi

A man from Fond du Lac County is alive, thanks to his daughter.

George Schultz is recovering after being trapped under a tree for more than five hours.

The 73-year-old man was chopping down the tree, when it fell on top of him.

"It didn't crush him to the point where he couldn't breathe, but it kept him down, he couldn't lift it off of him," said Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Waldschmidt

Schultz's daughter eventually found him, but she couldn't lift up the tree by herself.

"It was about 18 inches in diameter, so it was a pretty heavy tree," explains Waldschmidt.

Instead, she was able to improvise.

"She was able to use chains and a tractor, that he was using to haul wood, to use the loader on that to lift the tree off of him."

Schultz suffered some broken bones, but he is expected to be OK.
