Whitefish Bay native spends 'nerve-wracking' week in Tel Aviv
TEL AVIV - It's been an anxious week for Steven Karas.
"It is nerve-wracking," Karas told Wisconsin's Afternoon News. "For both myself and my family back in the United States."
The Whitefish Bay native lives in Tel Aviv, Israel, were Hamas militants have been targeting missiles. He has spent a lot of time in stairwells and bomb shelters.
"These are not small missiles," he explained. "They are deadly."
Officials are hoping a ceasefire will end the violence. Karas is hopeful peace can be achieved, but doesn't believe a ceasefire will accomplish that goal.
"Peace will take mutual respect, understanding, and education on both sides" he said. "People need to learn not to hate each other."
