FOX POINT - Eight-year-old Audrey Parrott, her twin brother, sister and their friend sat down with TODAY'S TMJ4's Tom Murray on the gym floor at their school.

Doctors diagnosed Audrey with leukemia just weeks ago.

"I'm just surprised that all these people came together for Audrey," her friend said.

Outside, more than 200 friends, neighbors, classmates and strangers ran for Audrey at Stormonth School.  Audrey's swim coach Jessica Luecke, a Nicolet High School senior, helped to organize the fundraiser.

"It's hard for her family," Luecke said.  "It's hard for me.  She's staying strong. So you know, it's good."

Sunday's race/walk was a short 5K.

Audrey's recovery will be a marathon of ups and downs.

Her parents are encouraged.

"She's been the strong one in this entire thing," said Chad Parrott, Audrey's father.  "Her attitude has never wavered.  That actually keeps us together."

Doctors estimate that Audrey's treatment at Children's Hospital will take about two years.
