Fond du Lac family using Facebook to stay updated on New Jersey relatives
FOND DU LAC- A Wisconsin family is trying to get a hold of relatives who live in the path of Superstorm Sandy.
Many out east are using their cell phones sparingly to conserve power. Many are relying on Facebook to get messages to family and friends quickly.
Penny Serwe is not sure exactly where her aunt, uncle and cousins are today, but she knows they're safe thanks to Facebook posts.
"Everybody in my family's been trying to get a hold of them," says Penny Serwe. "I am unsure if they evacuated, but my cousin said they were fine."
Penny's relatives live near the tip of Wildwood, New Jersey. The city is on a narrow peninsula that sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean.
"I feel bad for all those people because they have jobs and homes," says Penny.
Penny and her family have been trying to get in touch by phone, but that's been difficult. She says her uncle works for the Pier Paramedic Service and may be responding to weather emergencies.
"He's on call pretty much 24 hours in situations like this."
