Milwaukee fire house celebrates 100 year anniversary
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's Engine 31 Fire House is celebrating its 100th anniversary today. Fire Captain Chris Schutte says the event is bringing his station's history of serving the south side to the forefront of the minds of the fire fighters who work there now.
It's definitely always in the back of our minds, the brothers and sisters before us. We're still doing the same thing they did before us, we just have newer equipment and newer tactics," Schutte said.
The shades of history are everywhere. Schutte says there are pictures of smaller garage doors for smaller engines and the floor of the garage has marks from where old fire poles have been.
A plaque and pictures will go up in the firehouse to honor the centennial anniversary but Schutte tells me the fire fighters there always have the history in the back of their minds.
