New police video details domestic violence incident earlier this month
BROOKFIELD- It looks like Radcliffe Haughton left several warning signs prior to the shooting spree at the Azana Spa and Salon, but was never arrested.
Brown Deer police responded to the couples' home close to a dozen times for domestic violence.
But Radcliffe Haughton wasn't arrested until this month when slashed his wife's tires. Two days before that incident, Zina Haughton called 9-1-1 and police attempted to step in.
On October 2, 2012, Brown Deer police officers responded to a 9-1-1 hang up from a BP station.
Dispatcher: "Hello, what's going on?"
Zina: "I'm trying to disconnect my cell phone."
Dispatcher: "Why?"
Zina: "Because my husband stole my phone."
TODAY'S TMJ4 obtained exclusive video of Zina Haughton from a camera inside a Brown Deer police squad car. She tells officers she and her husband got into an argument.
Officer: "Is something going on?"
Zina: "There's nothing going on, I need to disconnect my cell phone."
Pictures taken by police show bruises to Zina's face. But at the time, she had no idea she was hurt.
Officer: "What happened to the side of your head here?"
Zina: "Is it my makeup?"
Officer: "No, it's not makeup"
The officer then takes her into the restroom to show her and help out.
"We're here to help you. You gotta let us help. You're scared right now, you're scared of whoever is involved. You gotta let us help you."
Police came to the house but Radcliffe did not answer. So they took Zina to a hotel for the night. The next morning they interviewed Radcliffe.
"I want to make it clear at no point did I ever strike her," says Radcliffe Haughton in a 18-minute interview. He tells officers his wife came home late and intoxicated and he suspected Zina was cheating.
"I grabbed her purse, took the cell phone out of it and that's when the confrontation started," says Radcliffe Haughton. "She knocked me down. She bite me. She punched me."
Radcliffe told police Zina ran out of the house.
"In her drunken state she tripped in the hallway. Matter of fact she hit her face on our climate control."
In the detailed police report, Zina never said her husband hit her. But when she asked a judge for a restraining order two weeks later, Zina talked about that night with fear.
