Milwaukee election officials didn't check early voting list against list of felons
MADISON- More than 200 people who registered to vote at the polls in Milwaukee on the first day of in-person early voting were not checked against a list of felons ineligible to vote.
The mistake was discovered Monday, the first day of in-person early voting in the state.
Milwaukee Election Commission executive director Neil Albrecht said Tuesday that all 204 names were checked and no one was on the ineligible to vote list.
Albrecht says it was not clear that people voting in-person absentee on Monday needed to be cross-referenced with the felon list. He says that has historically only been done on Election Day.
But he says the state elections board clarified the policy.
Albrecht says 2,369 people voted Monday in Milwaukee.
