SUSSEX- The president of QuadCreative and publisher of Milwaukee Magazine is reflecting on the relationship between Quad/Graphics and Newsweek magazine.

Newsweek announced Thursday that they will be stopping its print magazine next year.  Quad/Graphics, based in Sussex, currently prints Newsweek magazine at facilities including its Hartford plant.

Quad/Graphics has been printing Newsweek since 1977, and the business relationship was a turning point for the printing company.

"Newsweek was the first really big magazine Quad/Graphics got," says Betty Quadracci, president of QuadCreative.  "It took us to into another level."

She told Wisconsin's Afternoon News with John Mercure that the Quad/Graphics-Newsweek relationship was outstanding.

"We really were partners," says Betty Quadracci about the Newsweek-Quad/Graphics relationship.

While Newsweek said their emphasis to go digital seems to be the way of the newspaper/magazine business, Quadracci says it is a bit worrisome for printers like Quad/Graphics.

"Yes, its a concern, but there's always going to be a need for print," says Quadracci.

Shortly after the Newsweek announcement, Quad/Graphics said there would be minimal impact on their business.

Even with her print background, Quadracci says that Milwaukee Magazine's last issue is putting an emphasis on the digital age.  She says Actable™ interactive print solutions helped Milwaukee Magazine create its first entirely interactive issue.

"You can put your telephone, iPhone, iPod or iPad over this mark of the magazine and then it becomes 3D and an embedded video," describes Quadracci.  "It's those kinds of things that are going to make print really exciting."
