Controversial name for breast cancer event? ** Questionable language in story
Celebrating breast cancer awareness and pit bull awareness.
MILWAUKEE - October is not only Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it's also Pit Bull Awareness Month.
Therefore, Buster's Fund, a veterinary assistance organization and pet food pantry, is holding an event honoring both causes next weekend in Bay View.
"We thought it would be a great way to celebrate both causes," Rachel Krueger of Buster's Fund told me.
The name of the event: "Pits for Tits."
With the "I (heart) Boobies" controversy still lingering, is "Pits for Tits" an appropriate name for the event?
"It's not in any way meant to be offensive," Krueger explained. "It's a catchy name and we thought it fit perfectly for the event."
In a voice mail, the executive director of "Susan G. Komen for the Cure - Southeastern Wisconsin" told me she hadn't heard about the event. She added she was happy to know some of the proceeds were going to the Wisconsin Well Woman Program.
No one has complained about the name, Krueger said.
"Everyone has been really supportive," she said. "I think people are able to look past the name of the event and see we're really trying to bring awareness to these two great causes."
