McCarren: Rodgers' tight calf 'no big deal', DB's stepping up

GREEN BAY - The radio color voice of the Green Bay Packers said that despite MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers having limited action in practice, he expected Rodgers to be fine for Sunday's showdown in St. Louis.
"(Regarding) Aaron Rodgers' tight calf, he said, 'There's no way I'm not playing against the Rams.' There's no big deal," McCarren, who's also a Packers reporter with TODAY'S TMJ4, told Newsradio 620 WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Morning News."
McCarren also discussed how the Packers' young secondary has seen dramatic improvement in the previous two contests.
"(Rookie Casey) Hayward has had three interceptions the last two games. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out who's the hot hand at cornerback," said McCarren.
"(Davon) House, talented guy. He's biding his time, waiting to heal up from a shoulder injury and get back on the field. Injury happens. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see House get his shot as the dime back. With Hayward moving to corner, they need a dime back."
McCarren thinks that perhaps one of the Rams' biggest needs entering Sunday is help blocking Packers' all-world linebacker and sackmaster Clay Matthews.
"The Rams, to be quite frank, are challenged on the offensive line," said McCarren, a former Packers offensive lineman himself. But he does give the Rams hope in controlling Matthews - a though Packers fans don't relish.
"Teams rise to the occasion a little bit. I've gone through video study in the past, thinking 'There's no way this guy can block Clay Matthews.' Then, they give him help. They scheme things to make life more difficult for Clay."
