Wisconsin man sentenced for illegally shooting buffalo
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A Wisconsin man has been put on probation for a year and fined $5,000 for killing a buffalo in Badlands National Park in South Dakota.
U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says 42-year-old Joseph Wilmet pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of unlawful taking of wildlife. He also was ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution to the park.
Authorities say the Green Bay man shot the buffalo in November 2010 and partially butchered it.
