'Freshwater Way' to replace name of 'Pittsburgh Ave' in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE - Pittsburgh Avenue will soon become Freshwater Way.
City officials are working to rename the street to help promote a new water research park.
Mayor Tom Barrett made the announcement on Tuesday during the 2012 Water Summit.
Milwaukee is in process of building a global water research park at the corner of what was, as of Tuesday, South Second Street and West Pittsburgh Avenue.
"It makes a little sense, I guess," said Lisa Mackie of Harsco Infrastructure, which is on the current Pittsburgh Avenue.
"It's just that it's been this for so long."
Now, Mackie and her colleagues will have to replace their business supplies and explain their new address to delivery drivers.
"The name change could be a little troublesome."
The name change has two more steps to go through before becoming official.
That would likely happen in 2013.
