Jury selection to begin in Milwaukee trial of former Walker aide
MILWAUKEE - Jury selection was set to start Monday at the Milwaukee County Courthouse for a former aide to Scott Walker when he was Milwaukee County Executive.
Kevin Kavanaugh faces five felony counts of stealing more than $42,000 in donations to "Operation Freedom," meant for families of U.S. troops killed or wounded overseas in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Kavanaugh was appointed to the Milwaukee County Veteran Service Commission.
The allegations and charges came from the John Doe investigation into Walker's staff at the time.
Former Walker aide Timothy Russell also faces charges of taking money from a veterans' fund and a campaign account.
Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm contends that none of the charges are politically motivated.
Jury selection was set to begin at 9:00 a.m. Monday.
If convicted on all charges, Kavanaugh faces a possible sentence of more than 30 years in prison.
