Three injured in alleged wrong-way drunk driving crash in Caledonia
CALEDONIA - Crews have re-opened lanes of northbound I-94 near the Milwaukee/Racine County line after an alleged wrong way drunk driving crash.
Three people were injured. All three were taken to local hospitals, and they are expected to survive.
The collision happened at about 2:20 a.m. Monday morning at a construction zone near the 27th Street exit.
"We had a driver OWI again - and I say again because it's allegedly the third offense for this particular individual - jump on the interstate going the wrong way, ultimately crashed into the back of one of the construction trucks that was on the roadway," said State Patrol Sergeant Gaetano Martino to Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jay Sorgi.
TODAY'S TMJ4 raw video showed a sedan with heavy front-end damage, along with an ambulance leaving the scene.
Martino explained that most cases of wrong-way driving this year involve "intoxicants or age...it's a driver that shouldn't be driving."
