Coin Toss Could Decide Sewer Commissioner RaceTOWN OF BURLINGTON, Wis. (AP) -- The race for sanitary district commissioner could be decided with a coin toss after the two candidates tied in Tuesday's election. Incumbent Denise L. Rintz and Thomas Sondej, a former town supervisor, both received 145 votes for a six-year term as commissioner of the Bohners Lake Sanitary District. State election law requires a winner to then be determined by lot, Burlington Town Clerk Heidi Streif said Wednesday. That could involve a coin toss, draw of a card or putting the candidates' names in a hat, she said. The decision will be made at 3 p.m. Thursday at Town Hall, Streif said. Sanitary District commissioners are paid an annual salary of $2,700 to oversee operation of sanitary sewers in the Bohners Lake area, a mostly residential community about 40 miles southwest of Milwaukee. Sewers were installed there in the 1990s on an order from the state Department of Natural Resources. The lines transport waste to the city of Burlington's treatment plant a couple of miles east. ------ Information from: The Journal Times, http://www.journaltimes.com (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press.
