EEOC accuses Aurora of disability discrimination
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A federal agency has filed a lawsuit in Milwaukee accusing Aurora Health Care of rescinding job offers to two applicants after finding out they had disabilities.
The lawsuit was filed this week by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The agency says employers can require applicants to undergo a medical examination once an offer has been made, but they can't use the exam to discriminate against employees with disabilities.
The EEOC says Aurora offered jobs to two women, both of whom disclosed health conditions during their medical exams. One has multiple sclerosis and the other has carpal tunnel disorder.
An agency statement says Aurora contends that the applicants had failed to disclose their health conditions.
A message left with Aurora on Thursday was not immediately returned.
