PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) -- The Pueblo City Council is canceling the opening prayer at public meetings and will switch to a moment of silence following a complaint.

The switch was made after the city received a letter from the Freedom of Religion Foundation in Madison, Wis., arguing it is unconstitutional to coerce people at a government meeting to participate in what is typically a Christian prayer.

According to the Pueblo Chieftain, the city has tried to include prayers from every faith, but council members believe a moment of silence will serve the same purpose.
