Madison, union set to agree to pre-Act 10-like worker contract

MADISON - It appears a union representing Madison's largest group of workers will continue to exist as it did prior to Act 10, until 2015. 

Madison was one of the cities that signed a collectively bargained agreement with workers just before Act 10, the state's collective bargaining law, took effect.

Now, after a judge just threw out portions of the law, the state's capital city is about to sign another contract with the union. 

That would keep contracted provisions, including healthcare and work rules, in place through 2015. 

Act 10 allowed governments and school districts to simply impose health plans and work rules.

According to Madison.com, the new deal should save Madison $2 million a year.
