Building in which floor collapsed is condemned
LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- City inspectors have condemned a historic building in downtown La Crosse where three people were hurt when a second-story floor collapsed.
Dispatchers received reports that as many as 50 people might have been inside a large apartment when the floor gave way about 11 p.m. Saturday.
Three people were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. The rest of the people in the apartment had left the building by the time firefighters arrived.
The La Crosse Tribune (http://tinyurl.com/9j79tsw ) says the upper apartment spans two storefronts in the 1913 building, designated as a historic site because it's the original location of the Trane Co.
Fire officials say a 30-foot by 30-foot section of the floor gave way.
