Libyan-American from New Berlin condemns deadly attack on U.S. consulate
NEW BERLIN- Libyan-Americans in the Milwaukee area are condemning the embassy attack that killed four Americans when an armed mob stormed the U.S. consulate in Benghazi Tuesday and set it ablaze.
Ali Hatab grew up in Libya and moved to the Milwaukee area as a teenager in the early 1980s. He's now the principal of Hoover Elementary School in New Berlin and told Newsradio 620 WTMJ the attack on the embassy in his homeland sickens him.
"I was very saddened, I was heartbroken," said Hatab to Newsradio 620 WTMJ. "How could a heinous crime such as this take place against innocent civilians."
Hatab hopes that the attack doesn't damage American-Libyan relations.
"We are very grateful for all that has done and the support we have received," said Hatab of American government.
Hatab is active in the Libyan-American community and says it condemns -- in the strongest possible language -- the deadly attack.
