Uncle of American diplomat killed in Libya upset over deadly attack
TIGERTON- Chris Stevens, the U.S. Ambassador to Libya who was killed in a consulate attack by protesters, spent the last two decades in foreign service.
Donald Slicer is Ambassador Chris Stevens' uncle and lives in Tigerton, Wisconsin.
Slicer said he received a phone call about the news around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. He said that phone calls that early in the morning are never a good thing -- and this time was no exception.
"I'm extremely angry right now," said Slicer to Newsradio 620 WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Afternoon News with John Mercure." "He had brains, he was an incredible person."
Stevens, 52, was a career diplomat who was confirmed as ambassador to Libya by the Senate earlier this year. He had already served two tours in Libya, and had run the office in Benghazi during the revolt against Moammar Gadhafi.
"I had limited contact with him," said Slicer. "I got several glowing emails about how impressed (family members) were about Chris (Stevens)."
TODAY'S TMJ4's Steve Chamraz reports that members of Stevens' family are now in London -- awaiting word from the U.S. State Department on when they can collect his body, and begin to plan for a funeral.
