Snow + Heat = Melting = Floods

By Vicky Hollowell

Quickly melting snow could lead to quickly flooding rivers.

The Fox River in Kenosha County has been put under a flood warning until further notice, and water could rise past flood stage in some areas by the end of the week.

Stephanie Gieb, who lives off the river in Wheatland, says she hasn't seen much of a difference yet.

"So far, so good," said Gieb. "I ran some pipes away from my home and hopefully that will help."

"I am wondering. Hopefully it will absorb quick, but the river is awfully high, so I don't know."

Stephanie's had to watch for other bad weather in recent months, like the January tornadoes that took out a nearby house.

"We have some low spots and once those start to flood, then you're really on your toes watching for your house, you know your home."

Jefferson County officials are also keeping a close watch on the river, since they could also see water past flood stage by Friday.
