Pumpkin crop ripening early
GALESVILLE - The pumpkin crop appears to be ahead of schedule this year, according to pumpkin growers in Wisconsin.
The warm weather this past spring prompted the crop to ripen early, Tom Ferguson of Ferguson's Orchards told me.
"There are a lot of orange pumpkins (in my fields)," Ferguson explained. "We're already thinking about getting them in a cooler so they're available in October."
When I asked if the pumpkins could rot before Halloween, Ferguson responded: "It's possible. There are still a lot of green ones. But there are a lot of oranges ones as well."
"We need to get them in a cooler and slow them down a bit."
