MILWAUKEE- Milwaukee Police Officer Josh Albert continues to fight for his life at Froedtert Hospital following a wrong-way crash on I-94.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department said that 23-year-old Erin Salmon was driving drunk the wrong way along I-94 and slammed into Albert's car at a very high speed near N. 30th St.

"It's a miracle he (Officer Albert) wasn't killed, or that someone else wasn't killed," said Chief Flynn to TODAY'S TMJ4.

Chief Flynn visited the 31-year-old officer in the hospital.  "It's going to be long road to recovery," said Flynn.

Flynn personally knows the officer.  Albert received the Meritorious Service Award for outstanding police work since joining the force three years ago.

"When I got ready to leave, he actually reached his hand up from the bed to shake hands with me," said Flynn.

Meanwhile the wrong-way driver is in the same hospital.  She's also in critical condition.

Officer Albert's family is requesting the community pray for full recovery.  TODAY'S TMJ4 reached out to the suspect's family, but her parents did not return any calls.
