Oak Creek shooting
Lt. Brian Murphy released from hospital
MILWAUKEE- Oak Creek Police Lieutenant Brian Murphy has been released from Froedtert Hospital, according to a news release sent around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Lt. Murphy was shot by Wade Michael Page multiple times on August 5 during the Sikh temple shooting massacre in Oak Creek.
Lt. Murphy was transported to Froedtert Hospital following the shooting. Murphy was initially in critical condition but upgraded to satisfactory condition. He was released Wednesday afternoon.
Lt. Murphy's daughter Erika posted on Facebook about his recovery earlier this week, writing, "Thank you to everyone who has been keeping my father in their thoughts and prayers. God knows he needs it."
After Lt. Murphy was shot outside the Sikh temple -- Murphy heroically told other officers to leave him and tend to the other victims. One of those victims was the father of Amardeep Kaleka -- temple president Satwant Singh Kaleka.
Amardeep Kaleka told TODAY'S TMJ4 he's elated about Murphy's recovery.
"He (Lt. Murphy) actually was going to help somebody and that says a lot about his personality and his human condition," said Kaleka. "I heard the news and my whole spirit jumped up..."
Meanwhile, a second person shot by Page, Punjab Singh, remains in critical condition at Froedtert Hospital.
A third was released last week, and the fourth was treated for minor injuries on the day of the shooting.
