It's St. Patrick's Day in Milwaukee, and you want a way to party it up without getting behind the wheel.
We've got the Ultimate St. Patty's Pub Crawl Game Plan - 12 Irish pubs in 20 hours around the East Side and Downtown, with lots of food options to go with all you choose to drink, and you'll never have to use a car.
6:00 a.m.: Paddy's Pub on Murray, just north of North Avenue.
They'll open up before dawn with live music all day. Bring 3 non perishable food items and get in a drawing for a trip to Ireland, but you'll have to come back later on in the day for the drawing.
Don't worry, we have that planned out.
9:30 a.m.: Grab a 30 bus on Farwell and take it to Astor and Ogden, then walk two blocks south.
10:00 a.m.: County Clare. You'll arrive just on time for the Blessing of the Shamrock and live music from Barry Dodd.
Make sure to partake of the Molly Malone Mussels.
12:00 p.m.: Brocach on Water between Brady and Kane. You'll work off those mussels, or build some with an eight-block walk to one of the newest Irish pubs.
Brocach is Gaelic for "Badger's Den." Celebrate the Badgers' NCAA tourney bid with a Dublin City Burger w/Guinness Stout Sauce, and perhaps a pint.
1:30 p.m.: Paddy's (again). Take the 15 bus to Oakland and North, walk about five blocks and get back to Paddy's by 2:00 p.m. to win that trip to Ireland.
2:00 p.m.: The triumvirate on Water and Juneau. With victory in tow, celebrate your new travel plans, snag the 15, and bus down to any one of three authentic Irish pubs around Water and Juneau:
- Fitzgibbons
- The Harp
- The new Trinity Three, where the band Reilly's playing until 4:30.
5:00 p.m.: Flannery's, on Wells west of Jefferson. Saunter down to Flannery's and snag a beverage to wash down the Irish Rib Eye steak.
6:00 p.m.: Slim McGinn's on South 1st Street. Take the 15 from Wells and Water and balance your diet with some veggies from an Irish Wedgie.
No, it's not what you think.
It's their Irish salad with chicken, bacon and bleu cheese.
8:00 p.m.: The Irish Pub on North Water. Walk a few blocks north and snag some Jameson's Whiskey Chicken Wings while enjoying the tunes of Colin O'Brien.
9:30 p.m.: Mo's Irish Pub on Plankinton and Wisconsin. Take a seven block stroll north, and if you can get in, have the Bass Ale Steamed Clams, and enter the drawing for an emerald and diamond ring at 11:00 p.m.
11:30 p.m.: The Marquette-area bars. End the night by celebrate your new bling at one of three Irish Bars on the Marquette campus
- Hegarty's on 12th and Wells
- Murphy's on 16th and Wells
- Caffrey's on 16th south of Wells.
But remember to party safe, and remember, you can do it all without one second behind the wheel.
