Law enforcement agencies will be out in full force Monday, in order to keep drunken drivers off the streets.
"When you get behind the wheel of an automobile and you've had too much to consume, your car becomes a dangerous weapon," Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. told Newsradio 620 WTMJ.
The sheriff's department, along with the State Patrol and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) are amping up public awareness and enforcement Monday.
"We want people to feel that if they have too much to drink and get out on the freeway system, they're going to get caught," the sheriff said.
MADD state Executive Director Kari Kinnard stressed that St. Patrick's Day revelers should know there are options other than driving.
"Get that designated sober driver, get that taxi, or use the bus service," Kinnard pleaded. "Just don't take that ride in the back of the sheriff's deputy's squad."
