Crews clean up honey spill on Fond du Lac highway

FOND DU LAC - Crews with the Wisconsin State Patrol had to clean up a major mess on a state highway Friday morning.
Fond du Lac Police and the Wisconsin State Patrol tells Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jay Sorgi that a huge batch of honey spilled onto Highway 23 eastbound at the on-ramp to U.S. 41 southbound.
"A bee farmer had lost some barrels, one of 200 gallons of honey, that broke open," said Andy Thone of the Wisconsin State Patrol. It happened at about 5:00 a.m. Friday morning.
"This is the first time for honey for me in 24 years."
The right lane of Highway 23 eastbound was closed, along with the on-ramp to U.S. 41 southbound during the cleanup. Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Andi Miller reported that the road was open at about 6:45 a.m.
Shovelers and people using hoses were trying to remove the honey from the road.
Thone warned of possible problems including bees, flies and "other critters" that could show up in that area if any honey was left on the scene.
